TPU can be produced into single or two-component filament yarns, and chemical solutions are used in almost all cases (96%). Anhydrous dyeing can reduce the environmental impact of production processes. In contrast, when melt spinning, solutions are usually not used, so these solutions have lower or no VOC emissions. In addition, melt spinning has a particularly soft skin feel.

Combined with its extended lifespan, TPU technology is an ideal choice for heavy applications such as truck waterproof fabrics, bicycle bags, and synthetic leather. One important benefit is that thermoplastic polyurethane is easier to recycle than many existing waterproof fabric materials.
No chemical solutions are used in thermoplastic processes such as rolling or T-die extrusion to ensure the reduction or even complete elimination of VOCs. At the same time, there is no need to consume water to wash away excess chemicals, which is a typical part of solution treatment.

The appearance and feel of synthetic leather are difficult to distinguish from natural leather, and at the same time, the product has unlimited color and surface texture choices, as well as natural TPU oil resistance, grease resistance, and wear resistance. Due to the absence of any animal derived raw materials, TPU synthetic leather is also very suitable for vegetarians. At the end of the usage phase, PU based synthetic leather can be mechanically recycled.
